Massive Current spike on Auto-Detection for BLDC Mode

Postby balink » 14 Oct 2016, 18:00

I got my VESC recently for a 1/8th scale RC car, with 4s and a 1418kv motor. It is working, with reasonable efficacy. However, if I try to detect parameters for BLDC mode, it freaks out. It runs the motor at the proper current for a few seconds but then the current suddenly spikes to whatever I had set the motor's current limit to. After a few seconds of this (terrifying) jolt, it runs the motor at the low duty cycle for a second or so before saying that the Detection failed, with an error message "Bad Detection Result Received"
The motor runs fine with keyboard controls, though I haven't tried to run it with anything more than 3 amps. The graphs all look "fine" as far as I can tell, but I am no expert... The only possibly weird thing is that at rest, the VESC is measuring 0.2 amps through the motor, and I'm not sure if that is what's supposed to display.
Any ideas for what to try/look at would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
