An easy toolchain for the VESC firmware

Postby arvidb » 05 Feb 2016, 00:16

I recently looked into how to build the VESC firmware. One obstacle might be to get a working toolchain - cross-compile toolchains can be a real pain to build! Luckily I found out that ARM releases a ready-built one that can be found here, hosted by Canonical. There are versions for Win32, Linux, and Mac. For Linux, just unpack the tarball and set up your PATH and you're good to go! (Tested on Gentoo 64-bit Linux.)

Caveat: I have not tried the resultant binary on an actual VESC yet. But the build seems to work fine.

* To set up the PATH:

Code: Select all

$ export PATH=${PATH}:<path-to-where-you-unpacked-the-tarball>/gcc-arm-none-eabi-5_2-2015q4/bin/
