Reporting spammers.

Postby rew » 15 Jun 2017, 08:06

The typical spammer manages to circumvent the hurdles (captchas) to create an account, and then posts 6 or 12 (those numbers!) messages. Sometimes all in existing topics sometimes new topics.

You don't have to go through the trouble of hitting "report spam" on each of them. The procedure to get rid of it is for me to "search users posts" confirm that all of them are very similar and all spam, and then I hit: "delete user with all posts he made".

So if you report six spams from one user, the links I get from the five subsequent reports are "dead" because I deleted them with the user on the first report. Just trying to save those reporting these spams a bit of work that doesn't help anyway....

SPAM problem is getting a bit out of hand. I have had to delete 26 users the past week.

maybe require review of first posts or require new users to write a brief bio or reason for joining the forum in their application and/or limit the number of posts & new topics per hour/day for new probationary user category, also changing the security question(s) and/or adding more variety of security questions may help.

Holy shit, we've got a massive infestation, may be worth beefing up the anti spam protection.
