Pwm and inductance

Since a magnetic field colapses instantly with each disconnect of a circuit it makes sense that the coils would produce an extremely powerful torque ripple at the motor's pulse train frequency. Why doesn't this happen?

Is the motor amps a peak or an average?

The inductance keeps the current from varying too fast in the windings, in spite of the voltage pwm that generates this current.
With very low inductance motors, there is relatively large current ripple, but I don't think the associated torque ripple matters that much, since pwm frequency is high and the rotor inertia smoothes all out.
Measured motor Amps is rms.
