Some parts r not available. Substitute?

Postby SpyChar » 13 Apr 2017, 23:33

Hello ppls. I would like to order from Mouser all parts neccessary to make a VESC but unfortunately there r some that r unavilable right now. Could U pls suggest any substitutes that r currently in stock? The parts r:
TPSB107K006R0400
GRM188R71H472JA01D
CGA9P3X7S2A156M250KB
I have some candidates but I want to be 100% sure not to screw it up before I even start.

Yes, you should be able to find substitutes for those capacitors. If you make a proposal for what substitution you're planning, then it is much easier for me to check if that's a valid substitution. If you want me to search, i'll go back to my regular job...

Sure thing. For the first two it would respectively be this one TPSB107K006R0250 and this GRM1885C1H472JA01D. Tbh I can't find a replacement for the third one :/ The only cap with the same package and voltage rating is also out of stock.

@Edit.
Nevermind the third one

For the second one, X7R is better than C0G, I think. Not entirely sure. But even if X7R is worse than C0G, it's still pretty good and should be good enough.

For the last one, I go to the MLCC, SMD category and select the following filters: > 63V, > 10uF. For 10uF you'd need to mount two on top of eachother. to get the normal 15uF of capacitance. Or just guess that 10uF will also work. (I think so).

The voltage rating is "plenty", at 63V the nominal voltage of 60V is still within range. Does This link work for you?

I've read somewhere that C0G is actually better because it maintains it's properties across wider range of temperatures. They also have some cons but I'm no expert so I won't discuss that :P.
I have this third capacitor already so it's all good. It's unusual to find a forum where I can get any help(or any response at all) so thanks for ur time.

It'd probably be better to actually find the information than to just 'think' about it.

hihi. It's not that I'm trying to guess which one was better. It's just that my memory fails me occasionally.

Anyway, the C0G line is below X7R so it's worse, right? :-)

So, as I was already vaguely aware of, C0G is considered better than X7R. Fine. But the difference applies mainly for applications where it is important that the capacitance remains constant during operation. When an ESC has a filtering capacitor, the requirement is "good enough" or "enough capacitance", and the exact value is not important. It's different in say a filter, where the RC time comes into expression as the cutoff frequency.
