Hi,

question to the ADC-Mode.

Does the Regen-Break have priority over the Throttle ?

Cause i plan to use two seperate throttle, on for breaking, one for power, buzt want to be sute that if i would accidently push both that breaking has priority ??

greets

What I just learned today is that the throttle becomes a proportional brake signal when the brake button is pressed. But this is with a button and one "throttle-like-signal". In that case there is no possibility of ambiguity.

The code for the analog brake signal overriding the analog throttle signal (when brake != 0) is really easy. Should be easy to implement if it isn't already there. But I expect that it will be already there.

you could design the mechanical break like the ones used in trains, where the servo is used to compress a spring that applies the break unless the servo acts on it. if you go for a moderate amount of breaking force when the servo is off, you also dont fly off the board when something goes wrong.

Hi,

So i have the plan, but i need some Forecasts of people with experience.

My plan is:
- using a Hobbyking GT2B receiver (and sender) combined with my VESC
i would have loved to use the VESCs onboard BEC for powering the receiver, But.....
- i will connect the Breaking Servo directly into the Gt2B receiver (and maybe later via the VESC Servo out)
To be sure the Servo will be strong enough to push the hydraulic magura break lever i will take some pretty strong Rc-car servos with around 25kg strength.
But those Servos will need up to 3-4 Amps, so the VESC onboard BEC plan is done right here.
- Another potential Problem i came across is that most of those Servos work from 4,8-7,4 volts, and sure most effective with 7,4 Volt.
???
So what would happen, if i power the receiver with 7,4 Volts ecternal RC-BEC, can the VESC deal with the remote control signal comming from a 7,4 volt powered receiver, or do i HAVE to power the receiver with 5 Volts in order to give a signal to the vesc that it can deal with.

What's the VESCs reaction if i would demand slightly more than 1A from its BEC, and how if i would deman up to 2A from it ?

Do you have any other ideas how to work my plan out, or do you see any tremendousmistakes in my idea.
Like stated before, i just mean technical problems and risks NO health risks, please !!!

thanks in advance

If the receiver can handle 7.4V (most can't!) the question is: what does it do for output signalling. Will it use 5V signalling anyway, or will it use 7.4V signalling.

The "five volt tolerant" inputs of the VESC are in fact VCC+4V tolerant. That should come to about 7.3V (*). But when you say 7.4V, I take it you mean a 2S LIPO configuration. That is 8.6V nominal... I sure as hell wouldn't risk it.

Plan A) Measure the output of that receiver. If it is 5V even when it is powered from 7+V, good.
Plan B is to use a voltage divider. Aim for 5V at the maximum battery voltage, so that you get a comfortable 3.3V at min battery voltage.

Oh, about overloading the "BEC" in the VESC: don't! First, it is the 5V that powers the LDO that provides juice for the CPU. Brownout the 5V and the CPU crashes or does funny things. (e.g. it expects the powersupply to be 3.3V, so when that drops to 2.2V the CPU will still work mostly. However the analog reference now is 2.2 instead of 3.3V. It will THINK that your battery voltage jumped from 40V to 60V.... )
Secondly, the DRV8302 is the chip that does the "stepdown" switching. That 1A is already close to the limit. Besides that, the capacitors and inductors are sized for the 1A...

Long story short: Yeah, get a real BEC that can handle it.

(*) Note that it is only 4.0V when the receiver is powered but the VESC is not!

I agree with Shack and I support his ideas.
