Re: Setting a speed (RPM) using UART

Hi! 1): You can totally get the mechanical RPM without hall sensors, as it is always directly proportional to the ERPM. ERPM can be estimated from BEMF Zero-crossings, and other methods. Just multiply your desired mechanical RPM by the number of pole pairs of you motor (7 in your case) and you will ...

Disabling all "ramping features"

Hi all! I am currently using a VESC to dynamically move a mass along a linear slide The structure of our closed loop control is pretty much straight forward: Arduino DUE => CAN => VESC => Motor with Hall Sensors => Apparatus => Position Sensor => Feedback to Arduino To get the maximum positioning pe...

Can not get CAN Communication to work!

Hi Everyone! I have two VESC connected to an Arduino DUE via CAN. Reading the status messages of the two VESC (different controller IDs) at 10 Hz is no problem, everything seems fine. I do however have some trouble sending CAN Commands to the vesc. Documentation on this seems to be quite limited onl...

Re: Suggestions for OpenSource Electric Unicycle firmware

Hi Everyone! I am also trying to build a Unicycle, based on the VESC Controller. I was reading out an MPU6050 input that into an PID Controller and then control the Vedder via UART. It is not as stable as I want it to be. I reckon this is due to deadtimes in the communicaiton between the Arduino and...

Is that it?

Yessss! rew, you are great! Everything seems good now :)

And I thought I read everything about the VESC...

Re: Bug(?) with sending BLDC-Tool and UART commands simultaneously?

Hi rew, thanks for the fast reply! I figured a way how to work around it, so I was pretty much just looking if someone could reproduce the behaviour. This: If you want to be able to override this in BLDC_TOOL, you can disable the UART app in BLDC_TOOL. Is actually not true for me. I still get more o...

Bug(?) with sending BLDC-Tool and UART commands simultaneously?

Hi all! I think I just encountered a Bug/non-documented-/strange behaviour of the VESC. I have a VESC connected to an STM32 MCU that sends torque (==motor current) commands via UART to my VESC. Refresh rate is around 100Hz. If the vehicle is "disabled" by a switch on my MCU, the STM32 send...

Re: VESC 6 voltage/design limits?

Why not hook up a bench powersupply to supply the low voltage rails during tests/programming on the desk?

Requires a spare power supply of course, but there are quite cheap ones on the market...

Communication with VESC is limited - cant get results from hall detection, etc.

Hi Everyone! I am using a VESC in a custom scooter. Setup is as follows: - VESC for Motor Control - 12N14P Outrunner with custom hall sensors and skewed magnets - 12S 18650 Battery - Commands to VESC via UART Now I want to switch from BLDC mode to FOC in order to improve handling and reduce noise, e...

Maximum refresh rate of torque commands via uart?

Hi everyone! I am using the VESC for quite some time and now, and it really is one great motor controller! For my current project, I need to control the VESC as fast as somehow possible, because I need to control a basically unstable mechanic system. Think of something similar to a hoverboard. I am ...
