mini tutorial attach AS 5047 encoder to Velineon motor with VESC

Since those motors are popular with RC cars, here is a small mini tutorial writeup how to add the encoder and setup VESC:

Re: Fail detection (motor spinning)

I highly recommend adding a sensor to the Velineon motor, and wrote a quick tutorial on how to do it.

Ethercat for VESC

Did anyone try connecting to VESC using Ethercat? The Ethercat shorter cycle times would allow VESC to be used in robotics applications, it is superior to CANBUS. There are some affordable solutions by Infineon Technologies and Microchip (LAN9252). One easy integration would be connecting an Etherca...

Re: VESC V4.11 BOM faults

Yes, we ran into the same issue, couldn't locate R15 for VESC 4.12. Works well without ;)

Re: VESC 4.12 PCB at OSH Park

The purple VESC 4.12 pcbs from OSH Park work great, we hand-assembled a few and they run well.

VESC 4.12 PCB at OSH Park

There is the VESC 4.12 bare PCB at OSH Park, to make it more convenient to order a bunch:

I received the PCBs, they look fine, and I'll report if there are any issues after assembling them.

general purpose output pin(s) for VESC?

I would like to measure timings of some VESC loops by inserting a palTogglePad' for an output pin and hook up an oscilloscope to the pin. So far, I can do only achieve this by toggling a LED (disabling the ledpwm_update_pwm and inserting a palTogglePad(GPIOC, 4) in the code, and then soldering a sma...

Re: Position Control

Great, thanks for the reply. The maximum switching frequency allowed to enter in the bldc-tool GUI is 99.9 kHz, so that would imply the maximum current control loop is around 50kHz. Is this a hard limit of the VESC, or would it be possible to increase the maximum switching frequency even further (sa...
