I used the default VESC 6 firmware, v3.37 I believe. which should have the `HW_HAS_3_SHUNTS` already set. So I've got it all connected, getting reasonable readings for temperature and bus voltage but the current sensors are way out. I'm running VESC 6 firmware so it should be all set up for 3 phase current sensing but It seems to be subtracting phase 1 and 2 and assigning this negative value to phase 3....

Another quick update on this. I tried to plumb in a Chinese VESC logic PCB from the 2 PCB variant on to the driver shim. That didn't go well as I had a lot of difficulty soldering wires to the STM32F405. I ended up abandoning this plan mainly due to this but also due to the fact this would limit me ...

Diode drops 0.6V

That 8 times difference means you've got 8 times less current flowing to get the same power dissipation.

Arvidb is talking about electronic RPM, the number of 'turns' the ESC sees for each motor rotation. This is the number of poles multiplied by the number of rotations. Your suggested motors have a high pole count, 21 pole pairs, so it would be 110kv * 52V * 21 pole pairs = 120,120 electrical RPM. The...

You can certainly try it. But any voltage spikes from the motor will blow up the VESC. You want ~5V of headroom.

Stock VESCs will only accept up to 60V. Battery packs above 12-13S will cause the VESC to burn. This is a limitation of the driver chip and FETs, while changing the FETs is possible, there are no compatible alternative chips for the driver chip.
