Re: High Power VESC

Whey! Time for an update! So to combat the distance between the MOSFET gates and gate drivers I've designed a gate driver shim. Its a small PCB that puts the gate driver chips (UCC27211DDA) as close to the MOSFET gates as possible. The board is designed to fit on my IMS power stages I've mentioned h...

Re: DRV8302 faults with FOC

Providing you've bought a recent VESC it'll probably have the required capacitance already fitted.

Re: DRV fault code on FOC detection

Also question for caps and 60V is in place - can we get answer for this? Is it meant that we beef up caps if we use more than 60V ? The DRV8302 has an ABSOLUTE MAXIMUM rating of +65V so regardless of how high the caps are rated anything more than that and the DRV8302 will be damaged. Of course reme...

Re: mosfet caps missing?

are capacitors on mosfets between +60V and GND intentionally let out? The caps aren't missing, see: C1, C8, C9, C37, C40, C51 on page 7 of the v4.12 schematic. There's also the highly recommended external capacitor assembly that many VESCs come with. Can't help with the single logic/power count con...

Re: DRV fault code on FOC detection

The low-side sense resistors raise the 'GND' to ~60mV which would offset the non-sensing FET gate. This may cause DRV upsets. I don't know for sure but it kinda works now.

Re: DRV fault code on FOC detection

I believe the resistor is connected like that so that the current path goes via one of the sense resistors.

Re: VESC DRV8302 Problems MOSFET Swapping Considerations to all!

@TheFallen: do you know if the VESC from Ebay (with all FETs on one side) works well ? The layout seems strange to me with the 3 output wires very near to STM32, and the shunts opposite side of pcb than incoming dc power.. I've had 4 of them running C80100s very nicely. I've not extensively tested ...

Re: VESC DRV8302 Problems MOSFET Swapping Considerations to all!

Pretty much the same problems. That MOSFET isn't that much better, it and the original have roughly the same on resistance, gate charge and thermal properties. if you're only after 70A have you looked into this style of VESC: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VESC-New-4-12-Motor-controller-Latest-2-54-firm...

Re: Improve cooling

It is a very nice box to look at, and it fits really well with the rest of your bike. As far as I can tell the VESC was not designed for lots of power or heat. It was designed to fit into tiny spaces which it does very well. Someone tried attaching heat transfer pipes: http://vedder.se/forums/viewto...

I've heard they're fairly responsive over email which is the best place to go for custom/specials. But for links try Alibaba: https://maytech.en.alibaba.com/product/1972438852-800255909/Maytech_brushless_large_outrunner_motor_12090_for_large_RC_helicopter_airplane_uav.html Doing alright in general, ...
