Re: About the VESC trademark

This is a common misconception. There are two errors in this. 1) As long as you keep those changes to yourself you do not have any obligations to anybody about those changes. 2) If your changes end up in someone else's hands then you have the obligation to provide the sources to those changes as we...

Re: Newbie - what are the advantages of VESC for an electric scooter

I do have 2 regular brakes (mechanical disk brakes). Additionally, the regen brake is tied to the switch in the levers (they are so far merged, so if I press slightly any lever, the regen brake is fully triggered, but the mechanical brake are not yet activated). I would like to get rid of the «all ...

About the VESC trademark

It seems like several people are upset because I have obtained a trademark on the name VESC, so I would like to clarify a few things about that. For now this long post can be used as a reference if people are asking about the trademark. At first I had no idea about trademarks and did not care about ...

Re: Newbie - what are the advantages of VESC for an electric scooter

I cant tell exactly how other controller behave because I don't have one of each, but a few things I can think of that you controller probably can't do are: * Instead of an on/off brake, you can add a second throttle on another ADC pin and use it as an adjustable regenerative brake. * If you prefer ...

Re: "Encoder support is not enabled"

Encoder support is enabled in the firmware by default and does not need any special compile any more. To use an encoder you need to choose the correct hall/encoder port mode on the advanced page.

Re: Motor saturation

Saturation is likely to cause problems as the observer and current controllers will become mistuned as the motor changes parameters. Also, saturation of magnetic cores can be quite steep, so it is not a linear thing that happens slowly. I have implemented some saturation compensation in the new firm...

Re: VESC HW 4.12 temperature comparison

Very nice comparison, thanks for sharing! It really shows that the airflow has a huge impact on performance. What I'm missing from the video however is the motor current. The motor current is what causes the heat in both the motor and the FETs. The battery current and the wattage have very little to...

Re: VESC 6 Beta

So if you run at 100 A the continuous power would be 1000 w at 10 V input voltage or 5000 w at 50 V input voltage. So if you want to maximize power, go for as high voltage as possible. That should read: So if you run at 100 A the continuous power would be 1000 w at 10 V effective output voltage or ...

Re: Measuring pole count in BLDC tool [probably solved]

What I mean is that I'm usinig a higher voltage (100V) and a lot higher currents (up to 350 amps) so I can't use a precompiled BLDC Tool for windows as it won't let me to set these values so high. I've searched for a vile how to precompile BLDC Tool (VESC Tool from now on) from linux to suport wind...

Re: Measuring pole count in BLDC tool [probably solved]

Benjamin you said that there will be VESC Tool version for windows platform. Will it be possible to access precombiled files for eclipse or some other platform on windows? For now I'm using linux default software to change voltage, current and some other values. I'm not quite sure what you mean, bu...
