Re: Solar car races

Are you using the latest firmware? Benjamin released his vesc 6 code on github.

Re: High Power VESC

I second the DRV opinion, and wanted to say watch out the shunt resistor setup. Its a very small signal with a big loop area and a long travel up to the control board. It will pick up noise.
For 10kw I'd go with isolated gate drivers to save money in blown stuff.

Re: 160KW VESC

desaturation protection, which is a job of the gate driver. With a desat threshold around 8V, and 6x AUIRGPS4067D1 IGBT, it seems your current has to reach some 4000Amps to activate this protection, and even way more at low temps. Will your dc link handle this kind of current even for just a few us...

Re: 160KW VESC

My boards have had three current sensors for quite a while now. The old firmware is quite capable of ignoring the third current sense input, and calculating it instead. Yes, that sounds right. I'm also avoiding working on the old 4.x firmware and I don't have the powerstage here, so no amps for now...

Re: 160KW VESC

Maybe I missed something, but from the schematics, I think the overcurrent protection works only in one direction of each phase current. Is it wanted ? Yes, an overload condition is a slow thermal event, you're fine measuring the positive envelope. The cycle-by-cycle current monitoring is the desat...

Re: 160KW VESC

Well, if you want to try it now I can point you to the PCB manufacturer so you can avoid the pcb tooling. That way each board would cost you around $15 instead of $15+$200. This first version was designed very fast and it needs a revision that I won't be able to make for about a month. For example, ...

Re: 160KW VESC

For some reason I'm not suscribed to my own post. Are you going to make any changes to the vesc software? Yes, benjamin should provide some basic support, and I'll implement the firmware for the other features, like the SPI resolver and dynamic gate control. I want my code to be in the vanilla code ...
