Re: VESC HW Redesign (VESC Mini?)

I suppose then it doesn't matter and it's everyone's business which ones they solder into the holes.. Yes, you could fit the right angle connectors into the same holes too. The only connector that would not be as easy to swap is the usb-connector. I can check if there is something i could do with t...

Re: 5V supply

Yes, you can. As long as you don't try to pull too much current from it (with high power LEDs or something else that needs a lot of power). You should however be aware that this 5V supply from the VESC is quite noisy. Radio modules, like Bluetooth, need to have a quiet supply voltage to work good an...

Re: VESC HW Redesign (VESC Mini?)

Hello jaroslav Thanks for your inputs. There are two reasons why i went with top facing connectors. First, the are just smaller than horizontal connectors in general. And second, i was not thinking about stacking the ESCs on top of each other if i would need more than one. It seems to me that this c...

Re: Thoughts on other FET’s?

@Andreas, what's your view of the other FET on the list, the SUM70040E? Seems like there are more FET's that might be useful for the VESC in the TO-263-3 package range as well. Well, i would not really aim at a 100V rated FET if the driver is not built for that voltage anyway. You will usually get ...

Re: VESC HW Redesign (VESC Mini?)

Thanks, ekman. No, i have no Git or similar repository. Currently CircuitMaker is my repository, since it has basically Altiums vault release management integrated into the software. https://circuitmaker.com/Projects/5B6E62C3-6FAD-4250-A91D-1FF42FDEAB39 I plan to make a different repo once the proje...

Re: Need help upgrading DRV8302

To be honest, high power stuff is a bit outside of my comfort zone. I work more on the other end of the spectrum, in the low power world doing a lot of stuff to reduce the power footprint of our circuits. All the higher powered stuff, like the mains power supply and battery chargers for the larger U...

Re: Thoughts on other FET’s?

Direct-FET packages do look nice on paper, but you really need to have a professional assembler soldering these to your board properly in order to benefit from the advantages. Without X-ray inspection after the solder process, you just can not tell how well the solder joints under that metal package...

Re: Need help upgrading DRV8302

R30, R36 and R46 are basically a safety measure. They should ideally be connected between Gate and Source of the FET they are assigned to (The way R30 and R46 are connected), but they could in theory go to GND too. Usually it's not that hard to place them directly at the FET and connect the two sign...

Re: VESC HW Redesign (VESC Mini?)

VESC_Mini_V2.png Here is a little progress-update. The left side is basically connected up, but not very much optimised yet. The big thing to do now is finishing all the connections between FETs and driver. And then do another optimization. I want to move the driver around a bit, more up and to the...

Re: Need help upgrading DRV8302

Yes, it looks a little bit better. I hope you are not discouraged or offended with my constant nitpicking on your layout. My standards are pretty high, and probably way beyond anything a beginner would ever be able to achieve. I'm just trying to give you some pointers as to where I would try to impr...
